Reference: Pual-Attested Verb Roots by Second-Radical Guttural/Resh

Companion to Virtual Doubling vs. Compensatory Lengthening: that reference explains why a II-guttural (or II-ר) root shows a short vowel or a lengthened one in the Pual. This page lists which actual roots are attested — every Hebrew verb lexeme in the Pual stem whose second root consonant (R2) is א, ה, ח, ע, or ר, across every conjugation (perfect, imperfect, participle, etc.), not just one form.

Each table is drawn from every Pual token in the Hebrew Bible for that R2 letter, grouped by lexeme (Strong's number) so multiple attestations of the same root are not double-counted as different roots. Biblical Aramaic portions (Daniel 2:4b–7:28; parts of Ezra) are excluded — this is Hebrew only.

Summary

R2 letter Distinct roots Total Pual tokens
א 2 3
ה 1 1
ח 5 9
ע 8 8
ר 21 54
Total 37 75

Resh alone accounts for well over half of all Pual roots with a non-doubling R2 — consistent with Resh being the most frequent single trigger for the compensatory-lengthening pattern described in the companion reference page.

Method note: root identification uses each lexeme's dictionary citation form (from the MACULA Hebrew lexicon, keyed by Strong's number), matched against every Pual-tagged token in the Hebrew Bible. Worth a spot-check against BDB/HALOT before citing a specific root in teaching material.
