BBH Student Resources

Everything you need before your first Biblical Hebrew class.

Textbook

Basics of Biblical Hebrew Grammar — Gary D. Pratico & Miles V. Van Pelt, 3rd Edition (Zondervan)

Format Notes
Print (Amazon) ISBN 978-0310533498. Recommended — paradigm tables are easiest to read in print.
Kindle / eBook (Amazon) Available on the same Amazon product page; paradigm tables render poorly on small screens — not recommended as a primary format.
Workbook (Amazon) Companion volume — optional but helpful for extra practice.
Logos Bible Software Available as a Logos resource; integrates with the software and links directly to paradigm charts and vocabulary.

Make sure you have the 3rd edition (2019). Earlier editions have different chapter numbering.

Bible Study Software

You need a tool that supports:

  • Full morphological tagging of the Hebrew OT (BHS / Westminster Morphology or equivalent)
  • Lemma search — find all occurrences of a root across the OT
  • Morphology search — filter by stem, conjugation, PGN (e.g., all Qal perfect 3ms verbs)
  • Interlinear or word-level gloss display — hover or inline English glosses
  • Verse display with vowel pointing and cantillation marks
Tool Notes
Logos Bible Software Best-in-class morphology search; integrates with the BBH textbook resource; supports clause-level searches; cross-platform (Mac/Win/iOS/Android). Starter packages begin ~$50; full Hebrew capability requires at least the Foundations package or equivalent.
Accordance Mac-native; excellent morphology engine; slightly steeper learning curve for beginners but very powerful. Hebrew OT module required (~$70+).

Class recommendation: Logos — the textbook is available as a Logos resource, search syntax is well-documented, and free training videos are available.
