Ch17 — Waw-Consecutive: Exercises

← Back to lesson

Exercise Description
Parsing Drill This drill covers all major Wayyiqtol and Weqatal patterns introduced in BBH Chapter 17. Students parse 30 forms across three parts: Part A focuses on strong and common weak Wayyiqtol forms, Part B targets weak-root Wayyiqtol forms (III-ה, Biconsonantal, Geminate, I-י, I-נ), and Part C requires disambiguating Weqatal from Perfect and Imperfect forms using the presence and type of waw prefix.
Passage Exercise This passage exercise presents 16 highlighted verb forms drawn from four canonical OT passages: Genesis 1:1–5 (creation narrative), Genesis 22:1–4 (Binding of Isaac), Deuteronomy 6:4–7 (The Shema), and Exodus 3:1–6 (Moses and the Burning Bush). Students identify each form as Wayyiqtol or Weqatal, parse its PGN, identify the root, and note its narrative or discourse function (Sequential Past, Sequential Future, etc.). The first form in Passage A (בָּרָא, a Qal Perfect) is included deliberately to test disambiguation.
Wayyiqtol Paradigm Drill Write all 10 Wayyiqtol (Waw-Consecutive Imperfect) forms of קטל from memory.
