Etymology and Semantic Range¶
Compound: πρό (forward) + πίπτω (to fall). Literally "falling forward" — the one who rushes ahead without thinking.
Two NT occurrences: Act 19:36 (the Ephesian town clerk warns the crowd not to act προπετῶς — rashly) and here. Three LXX occurrences.
OT / LXX Background¶
Hebrew פָּזַז (to act rashly, to leap; 2Sa 6:16 of David's dancing; Gen 49:4 of Reuben's rashness) and מִבְהָל (hasty, rash; Pro 29:20).

NT Distribution¶
Theological Note¶
The KJV "heady" (headstrong, wilful) captures the volitional aspect. προπετής is recklessness in action — the behavioural complement of τετυφωμένοι (inflated in mind).
